Summer office party: BBQ catering tips and tricks
posted on
Summer is in full swing and everyone in the office is looking for excuses to get outside. What better time to throw a super-low-maintenance BBQ party with your team in the park, at the beach, or even in your office parking lot? I’m talking about BBQ catering.
It’s a thing. And it’s mouth-wateringly delicious with zero effort. Plus, nothing bonds teams together quite like a good old-fashioned BBQ. Instead of marinating your meat for hours, slow cooking it all day and then crisping it up on the BBQ (which you don’t have time for anyway because you’re so busy at work), why not let the BBQ pros do all that?
All you have to do is organize your colleagues, order BBQ catering from Foodee (give them plenty of advanced notice to start smoking and prepping) and go find a park. We supply sustainable packaging, utensils and napkins, which you’ll definitely need, and deliver right to your team. But I digress.
Today, we’re taking a tour deep south to the heart of Austin, Texas barbecue joints. These are some of Foodee’s best owner-operated BBQ, burger and hot dog restaurants. They’ll get you hungry for BBQ catering in whichever Foodee city you’re ordering in.
Top 5 BBQ Catering Joints in Austin, Texas
Kerlin BBQ: Some of the best in America
Business Insider once called Kerlin BBQ “the number one barbecue joint in America” and we tend to agree. This local secret is definitely out. Their menu is simple, yet delicious. Think barbecued meat of your choice (ie. Prime Angus brisket, pork ribs, pork shoulder or beef hot links) with a side of bread, housemade pickles, onions and barbecue sauce. Or, go for the same, but in a sandwich form that’s easier to handle. Also, the blue cheese coleslaw is creamy and delicious.

Freedmen’s: They smoke everything
Freedmen’s is an Austin classic. Housed in a historic Austin building, this beer garden, whiskey lounge and smokehouse serves up some mighty fine barbecue. Plus, they smoke everything. Smoked beets, smoked jalapenos, smoked mushrooms and of course, the smoked and barbecued meats. They’re serving up half pounders of pulled pork, turkey breast, house-made sausages, pork belly, pork spare ribs and brisket. Looking for a side big enough for your team? Think mac and cheese for 25 people. Bring your appetite.
All Star Burger: All natural, happy meats
What’s a BBQ party without a few burgers?! All Star Burger only serves Premium Gold Pure Country Angus beef. That’s no antibiotics, hormones or other bad-for-you-and-the-planet chemicals. The only problem is deciding which burger to order. They have more than a dozen crave-worthy combinations of patties, veggies, cheeses and sauces, plus you can build your own burger. For a healthier twist, they also have a serious selection of fresh salads and even salad platters for a whole team.
Waterloo Ice House: Go for the works
Since 1976, Waterloo Ice House has been dishing up made-from-scratch, all-natural meals to Austin locals. This menu has something for everyone: from hot wings, Texas chili, salads and Angus beef burgers with fries to Texas Philly and BBQ pulled pork sammies. This is your one-stop-shop for BBQ catering.
Mission Dogs: Hottest dogs at any BBQ
These guys have some crazy hot dog combinations, but for those who like to play it safe, nothing says summertime like a classic hot dog with a bag of chips. We love the Mission, with its bacon-wrapped hot dog, sauteed onions, jalapenos, mayo, mustard and ketchup on a bun. Why not make it nostalgic and bring some baseball gear with your team to the park?
Wherever you live in North America, we probably have your BBQ catering needs covered. Just find your city on our website and search for BBQ, burgers, hot dogs, happy hour, beverages and/or desserts to find the perfect joint for your team.
